{Giveaway} L.A. Girl Beauty Brick Eyeshadow Palette

Hiya loves. So I recently went into our local Dischem and there was a huge L.A. Girl stand at the entrance to notify customers of the current Beauty Fair where they have great promotions and specials on offer. All L.A. Girl products are 25% off and since I own a few L.A. Girl products like the gel liner, blush and lip glazes, I knew that it would be good value for money.

Front and centre was the new Beauty Brick Eyeshadow palettes. There are 4 available palettes each holding 12 shimmer and matte shades. The nude and ultra palettes were sold out (each store only received two of each palette) so I figured I’d get them another time. My friend Racheal then sent me pics of the nude palette she purchased so I drove to a store that still had stock and snatched them up. I found the neon palette a bit too brass and bright for my liking so I gave that one a miss.

The palettes have a somewhat sturdy cardboard exterior, not something I see breaking apart without some mishandling. But what’s great about this palette, which you would normally not find with other inexpensive counterparts, that the interior used to house the pans is made from solid plastic. The only let down for me is that there are no names for the shades so their are no markings on the plastic either. There is a narrow mirror on the inside of the lid, great for travelling and a magnetic strip of some sort to hold the lid closed.

The palette also comes with a double-ended applicator, a brush on one side and a sponge applicator on the other. The brush bristles are not scratchy and quite flat so it’s best used for all over colour application or crease work.

The shadows are smooth and have little to no fallout. I struggled to blend a few of the darker shades in the Ultra and Smoky palettes but it looked great once it was done. I applied a few colours with some MAC Fix+ and they were so vibrant and pigmented. I don’t have oily lids so I didn’t experience any creasing, but when I didn’t wear an eyeshadow base, the colour faded in about 4 hours on my skin tone.

The shades do not look exactly the same on the skin as it does in the pan. You can see by the swatches further on and I’m not wearing any primer below. Even though I am usually a shimmer shadow kinda gal, the matte shades really blew me away.

The Ultra palette has purple writing on the front and a purple pan to hold the shades. Colours include variants of champagne, pinks, lilacs and plums. Even though the far right shade looks dark in the pan, it swatched a lot lighter than I expected.

The Smoky palette has grey writing on the front and a bright pink pan to hold the shadows. These shades are varying tones of greys, whites and browns.

And last but not least the Nude palette. It has beige writing on the front and an identical pan to match. The colours are pretty rose-toned neutrals and by far my favourite palette in the range. Luzanne from Pink Peonies has even gone so far to compare it to the esteemed Urban Decay Naked 3 palette, you can read her review here. I had the same issue she did where the Nude palette wasn’t even entered in on the cashier’s system yet.

As you can see each palette is versatile in it’s own way depending on the look you are going for and like I mentioned before, you are receiving a great product for the little amount you spend on it. The palettes are retailing for R52.50 ($4.57) currently, but this price is only until the Dischem Beauty Fair ends on the 8 March and it will go back to the original price of R65, which is still worth it in my opinion.

So now on to the most exciting part of today’s review. I recently reached 100 followers on my blog and decided to celebrate it by giving away a L.A. Girl Nude Beauty Brick Eyeshadow palette to one of my readers. Since I held a giveaway last month as well, I decided to only make this one eligible to South African residents. All you need to do is subscribe to my blog by clicking on the follow button in the top left hand corner or by clicking on the Bloglovin link under my signoff. If you’re already a subscriber then just leave a comment below. The giveaway will run only for one week and will close at midnight (CAT) on the 4th of March 2015. A winner will be chosen at random and will be notified via email and posted on the blog.

Good luck bellas…

What do you think of the L.A. Girl Beauty Bricks? Which is your favourite palette?

  5. I saw these at our dischem on Monday, and now with you mentioning each store only received two I regret not taking a closer look when I was there! My fav has to be the nudes palette 🙂 Maybe when I am able to go to town again they might still have some.

    • I think they brought a few out just in time for the Beauty Fair. I’m sure they’ll bring in loads once they see it flying off the shelves like hot cakes. Good luck!

      • Haven’t been on holiday to the Wilderness in years. At least George Mall isn’t too far away. Where do you usually do your makeup shopping?

      • At The Garden Route Mall in George and sometimes at the Pick n Pay Center, there is a Clicks store. At the mall I’ve even been able to find freebies from Clicks for beauty promotions that has passed, like free Bourjois makeup brushes and sunglasses and I only had to pick up one product for it 🙂

I contacted the store and they said they aren’t getting any stock I’m until August! Was so sad! I really would love the Nude pallet 😦 it’s stunning. Loove your blog!
