Stila Makeup Haul

So it’s been almost three weeks since I last posted and it feels like a lifetime. With real life getting in the way, there are just not enough hours in day to insatiate my passion. I’ve missed blogging so much I’m not going to rant on incessantly so I’ll get right on to it.

I love doing haul posts as I tend to go a bit overboard when I’m shopping and usually take more items than I should. So a few weeks back I went to our local department store Woolworths to buy a primer and they were having a beauty festival where if I took 3 or more beauty products, I received a 20% discount when paying. So obviously I couldn’t pass up such an opportunity and decided to take a couple more products as well.

So first up is the Stila One Step Correct Primer. If you’ve read my previous blog post here, you’ll know that I absolutely love the pretty helix pattern inside the bottle but what differs is that the Stila primer has 3 colours in its correcting formula.

  • Green tone instantly neutralizes redness and conceals blemishes
  • Lavender tone counteracts sallow undertones for a vibrant, energized look
  • Peach tone brightens, illuminates and helps diminish the appearance of sun spots

Upon pressing the pumphead a shiny cream wiggles its way out. Whenever I use this primer, I never fully depress the pump as it dispenses a lot more than necessary. It applies like a smooth green cream but absorbs well into the skin. I love the Stila primer because it minimises any redness I might have on my face and allows my makeup to last for hours. It doesn’t really do much to minimise my pores but it does keep the face moist and hydrated throughout the day so I don’t think it would be suited for very oily skin. Since I have dry skin it makes applying foundation real easy and brightens my normal complexion. Since I have dark under eye circles, I feel the green tone makes me look ashen so I need to conceal a bit more under my eyes once I’ve used the Stila primer. Overall I really like this primer and would definitely purchase it again if I ran out. Price R385

The Stila Custom Colour blush was also in my shopping cart. I chose the colour self-adjusting coral as I feel the tone warms up my complexion. The colour is a deep peach in the pan and is the darkest coral shade of blush that I own. The Stila website states that the formula ‘Reacts to the wearer’s pH levels to create the perfect shade every time’. Now I’m not sure how this works but I must say that this blush is one of my everyday favourites. It has a slight bit of shimmer in the compact, but once it’s applied and blended most of it goes away. The blush is super pigmented so just a little bit gives me the perfect hue for hours on end. I don’t particularly like the packaging as it’s a bit boring but it’s small and lightweight so it great for my handbag. Again another Stila product that I would purchase if I ran out. Price R250

Stila_BlushMy third purchase was the Yves Rocher Hydra Vegetal Moisture Boost Concentrate because I needed some nourishment for my dry skin. You can read the review I did on it here as I am just so in love with this product it needed its own limelight and then because I purchased two Stila products I also received a free gift.

The Stila Elegant Emerald lip glaze trio. Sounds royal doesn’t it. I have been wanting to get my hands on a Stila lip-glaze since forever. I have read great reviews on them and seen hundreds of beautiful pictures so I was elated when I got this gift, for FREE … until I got home and tried it. Everything I love about the lipglosses I own, is exactly the opposite of what these glazes do and it was just a reaffirmation after I tried them. Firstly and most importantly, I dislike the texture of the lip-glaze. It is super thick and sticky but I guess that’s how it is able to be long-lasting. The colours in this trio are also very translucent so they add no colour to my lips when applied. I think it would be suited to someone with a fairer skin tone or someone looking for the glossy effect with a slight shimmer. The lip-glaze colours included in the trio are Kaleidoscope (peach shimmer), Apricot (sheer apricot) and Pout (guava pink) as pictured below. The only thing I love about these lip-glazes are that they smell yummy and sweet, similar to candy. Cons on the product would have to be the twister pen because the first time I used the lip-glaze, I twisted a third of the way up before any product came out and when it did it came out gushing. Definitely not worth the price but I’m glad I got the chance to test it out. Price R140 for the trio (3 pieces at 1.5ml each) at selected Woolworths stores and the individual lip-glazes retail for R225 (2.4ml)
